Apple started today the iPhone 4 free case program as promised. The whole procedure is done via a dedicated app directly from the phone. Meanwhile Apple quietly delayed the white iPhone 4 until the end of the year.
Right on time, Apple launched its iPhone 4 free case program. If you've already got an iPhone 4, you should apply for a free case until 22 August. If you plan on buying an iPhone 4 before 30 September, you won;t get the free case bundled with the phones. You still need to apply... |

Motorola announces Quench XT3 Android phone for Taiwan |
| |
 |
Motorola is having great time with Android - the latest Moto droid is the Motorola Quench XT3. We've seen it before under the name XT502 Greco though its specs have been lowered somewhat since then.
The Motorola Quench XT3 is a touchscreen bar, similar to the original Motorola Quench. The Quench XT3 runs Android OS 1.6 Donut (and not the initially rumored 2.1 Eclair). Another change to the official spec sheet compared to the rumors is the 3MP camera.
The rest of the Motorola Quench... |

| |
 |
The story goes on. Samsung did say something about the Antennagate but their official statement on that matter never showed up. Up until now. Here it is. It just can't get any more official and clear than that!
This is a Samsung I9000 Galaxy S ad that has just appeared in the UK press. Click on the image to enlarge it and take a look at what Samsung had to say about Apple's recently unveiled iPhone 4.
Last time when we heard Samsung talking about that the company sounded calmer,... |

 |
Well, how about that? All the rumors turned out true to the last bit. At an Android press event Google just presented their new Android uberphone and they have novel way of selling it directly to customers.
Features and design
You've probably heard all there is to know about the Google Nexus One. We doubt any of its specifications will come as a surprise to you. It's got a Teflon-coated body, a 3.7-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, GPS, digital compass, accelerometer,... |

Unknown Sony Ericsson Kurara look-alike has QWERTY keyboard |
| |
 |
A tipster sent us a photo of a Sony Ericsson phone we haven't seen before. It looks like a Sony Ericsson Kurara, it quacks like a Kurara, but has a QWERTY keyboard. Yep, this just might be a new entry into Sony Ericsson's U series.
We don't know how much this unknown phone and the Sony Ericsson Kurara have in common, besides the obvious similarities in looks. From the screen it's clear enough that it runs Symbian S60 5th edition.
Update: SEMCBlog has dug up some more information... |

Nexus One reviewed properly ahead of its announcement |
| |
 |
There are still a few hours left to the Google press event this evening, where Nexus One is supposed to get official announcement. But there are already two full reviews published since yesterday, answering almost every question there is about the phone.
The Nexus One official announcement will most probably take place this evening with Google's press conference starting in 6 pm GMT. Surely there have to be some interesting new morsels, but after so many leaks there's not much left to know... |

The GSM encryption algorithm was broken |
| |
 |
Put your tinfoil hats on - GSM encryption has been broken. This means that Evil Doers can listen in on your calls and read your SMS messages. Law enforcement agencies already have that capability, so this doesn't change things if Big Brother eavesdropping is what worries you.
The encryption algorithm used in the GSM network is called A5/1 and was developed in the distant year of 1987. There is a new standard called A5/3, which is much more secure, though not used by most carriers yet.

Series 40 is getting touchscreens, dual-SIMs and QWERTY keyboard |
| |
 |
Nokia has big plans for all three of its platforms. Despite the huge growth of affordable smartphones, the S40 platform will go on, getting touchscreens, dual-SIM and QWERTY keyboards, while Symbian and Maemo will get new interfaces with improved speed and multi-touch.
Nokia sees Maemo taking up a big portion of the number of devices sold by 2011, compared to the current niche status of the platform. When Maemo 6 hits it will bring along multi-touch support as well. Both Maemo and Symbian... |

Video demo of new Sense UI from HTC Espresso ROM hits the Net |
| |
 |
The HTC Espresso is like a ninja - all it leaves behind is circumstantial evidence that it exists. The latest part of the puzzle is a video demo of a leaked Espresso ROM that showcases the updated Sense UI running on the HTC Hero. Ironically, the Espresso is rumored to be the successor of the Hero.
The yet unseen HTC Espresso is supposed to be like an HTC Hero but with a QWERTY keyboard. An XML, leaked a few weeks ago, suggests the HTC Espresso will be running on a Qualcomm MSM 7200A 528MHz... |
